Feeding & Observing Horses In The Paddock

David White takes us on the afternoon feed run and discusses the observations that should be made while feeding.

The Expert | David White

David White is the stud manager of Vinery Stud in Scone, New South Wales.

Originally from Ireland, David grew up with horses and loved show jumping and watching legendary trainers like Vincent O’Brien.

Working in the thoroughbred industry was an obvious choice for David who grew up 40 minutes from Coolmore.

He first came to Australia in the late 1980’s and has travelled with history-making stallions like Danehill, Fairy King, Thunder Gulch and Last Tycoon.

David worked at Ra Ora Stud in New Zealand before moving  permanently to Australia to work for Coolmore again in 1996.

Dave loves the health and vibrancy of Australian racing and particularly enjoys watching progeny of Vinery stallions go on to be winners. He believes that even though work on a stud can be tiring and  the hours are long, that the rewards are worth it.
"You learn something new every day that you work with horses."
Many thanks to our experts for sharing their methods of working with horses. Every farm will do things differently but remember, horses are individuals and you might use the knowledge you learn today to help a horse in the future.
